Deep Review: The "Specialist" Who Survived on 5% of Trades
Recently, I compiled a trader's complete sliding window data on BTC-USDT-SWAP from 2022 to 2024. When I looked at the two sets of data—"profit-loss ratio" and "win rate"—together, I found a very typical, even somewhat extreme, survival sample.
If you feel your win rate is low and you often suffer consecutive stop-losses, after seeing this trader's curve, you might gain a new understanding of "how trading makes money."
1. This kind of curve is typical of a "trend catcher"
First, look at the profit-loss ratio. In the chart with outliers retained, we can see several exaggerated peaks breaking through 30 or even approaching 40. After winsorizing (i.e., removing extreme outliers), the profit-loss ratio for most of the time actually shrinks back to between 2 and 6.

What does this mean? This trader's account equity growth basically does not rely on daily small choppy moves, but entirely on the 5% or even fewer "god-tier trades." He may be constantly trial-and-error on ordinary days, but as long as he catches one big wave, a single trade can cover the losses of dozens of previous trades.
2. Lifting the fig leaf off win rate
Many people pursue a win rate of 70% or even 80%, but looking at this trader's sliding win rate chart, you'll find the truth is cruel:
- His win rate center has long fluctuated around 30%-40%.
- At the worst time, within a window of 10 consecutive trades, the win rate actually dropped to zero.

Imagine, if you had lost 10 trades in a row, could you still stick to executing the system? He experienced such moments of zero returns at the end of 2022 and in April 2024, but the curve then climbed back up, which shows his psychological resilience (or mechanical execution of the system) is extremely strong.
3. Three stages worth pondering
- Death spiral zone: In mid-2022, the profit-loss ratio repeatedly fell to near 0. At that stage, he not only guessed wrong (low win rate), but even when he won, it was a small gain, while losses were large. That was the most dangerous moment for his system.
- Highlight explosion zone: From the end of 2023 to the beginning of 2024, his profit-loss ratio frequently showed pulses above 20. This indicates he accurately captured the one-sided major trend of BTC during that period, which was also his most lucrative profit zone.
- Style correction zone: Look carefully around February 2024, his win rate rarely surged to nearly 80%. At that time, his profit-loss ratio was not as exaggerated as before, indicating that he restrained his ambition during that stage and repaired the account by increasing certainty.
4. Summary
This trader is an extremely pure executor of "cut losses and let profits run."
He proved with data: Even if you are wrong on 7 out of 10 trades, as long as you can hold a profit-loss ratio of over 20 times on the 3 correct ones, you are still a winner in this market.
But ordinary people find it hard to replicate him, because 99% of people would have already deleted their accounts and left due to psychological breakdown during that sliding window when the "win rate dropped to zero."
Does your system rely on high-frequency small gains, or on this kind of large profit-loss ratio?
